Fellow OTs:
Up until last year I was a practicing OT. Within the last year I have
started and operated a division of a medical equipment company in our region.
We have a management group that over sees us. Recently, we have a new VP of
Sales and Market and he asked me the other day "have you had any formal sales
training." I responded with technically no, but as an Occupational Therapist,
I have had to sell profession and myself for the last six years.

Went to a home companion agency today and met with the owner and 4 other
coordinators. I asked them if they had heard of OT and only 1 person
raised their hand. At the end of my presentation, the owner thanked me
for explaining OT because they didn't really know what it was.

I think instead of calling it occupational therapy, I think I'm going to
start calling it the Other Therapy. . But maybe AOTA could turn
it into a marketing slogan:

"OT, the other therapy. You haven't heard of us but we're there when you
need us"
