Chris wrote "We were in fact a sub speciality of physical therapy in the military." On a similar note The first OTs in Canada were taught in the Faculty of Applied Science (Engineering). OT here was not subsumed by medicine until after world war two and it was at that time that joint OT/PT training which lasted until the seventies in some schools began. (Physicians thought a generic therapist would be useful!) Therapists opted for one or the other upon graduation. Even in the late 80's when I was in school we took basic courses like physiology both physical and neuro with the PTs. Any wonder we get confused with them? A continuing question used to be 'what science are we applying' The young science of occupation is now emerging and what a help it is! That is why in my formulation of OT expertise I spoke of 'a particular application of the concept of occupation'. Joan
