hi all,
just wondering if any of you are involved in swallow assessments? if
you are, are you solely responsible or are you completing the
assessments together with a SLP?
my query comes from my recent experiences on the unit i practice on
where the swallow assessments are completed together with the SLP.
prior to this experience i had not encountered OTs performing swallows
during my 15 years and several positions in several countries.

this particular hospital has had a culture of OTs performing swallow
assessments for a number of years, quite often without the involvement
of a SLP. i am of the mindset that OTs should not be practicing in this
area for a number of reasons, mainly it is an area that i think further
dilutes our profession. also, in my mind, SLP is a profession devoted
to this area.
