Just got back from the store where I ran into one of my wife's friend.
The friend's mom had a recent change and was just completing home
health. She wants me to see her mom after home health. When I asked
about what the OT did, she said "she was more concerned about my mom
being able to identify colors than taking care of herself". The friend
indicated that the OT had her mom "playing" with colored pegs and cones.

So once again, an OT has left a patient feeling that our role is playing
with pegs and cones.

I really love sharing these stories because they highlight the absurdity
of what many OT's REALLY do. How, contrast this story with our
centennial vision. Are cones and pegs going to make us a widely
recognized and POWERFUL profession?? Think for just 1/2 a sec and look
really hard and you will see the white elephant lurking in our midst!

Do you remember the 3D posters some of us used to stare at for long
periods of time. It's like you just kept staring at this picture and
then all of a sudden a 3D image would come into focus. It's the same
with OT. If you look at it long enough, the 3D's of OT come into focus

Dumb - much of what we do for "therapy" is dumb

Despondent - too many of us are despondent about our profession

Deliberate - we are deliberately undermining our own worth

I just made up the 3D's and I reserve the right to change them as
necessary!! <smile>
