Dear Diane:'
re: "I looked and looked and I did not see real personal goals on our evals. The
goals are the same for everyone (ADL's, transfers etc), not written in a
goal sentence, and recommended treatments which tend to get checked off a
list (self-care, theraputic activity, theraputic exercise) and the
occasional cognitive goals. It is up to me, the COTA, to infuse a sense of
purpose in the treatment I suppose."

You are right...a lot of evals are not well done, and goals are not well
constructed, plans not well targeted or thought out...I've always thought that
this is the beginning of the breakdown in the process of doing really
occupation based treatment, The goals and plan for the foundation for what is
to come...and when that is poorly concieved then the therpeutic process falls
apart and the treament provided is not skilled or relevant. It's not as easy to
do it well as one might think... and I suppose it is not common to see it done
well...and not all mine are done well,
But...keep up the good work and collaborate with the OT on creating goals and
plans that lead to occuaption...Go COTA GO
