I agree. In fact, I pointed a minus on it as "complexity unknown"
with "bound to windows" I meant "it has to be written for the windows platform".The connector approach is not 'bound to windows'. If you look at http://openconnector.org/images/outlook-connector-overview.png , notice that the remote server only speaks established protocols. OpenConnectors job is to convert MAPI propertes/interface-methods to API roughly comparable to open protocols.
Of course it is client side, and it doesn't forces the server to run on windows too
