The connector approach is not 'bound to windows'.
If you look at

, notice that the remote server only speaks
established protocols.  OpenConnectors job is
to convert MAPI propertes/interface-methods to
API roughly comparable to open protocols.
with "bound to windows" I meant "it has to be written for the windows platform".
Of course it is client side, and it doesn't forces the server to run on windows too
