[otrs] Problem with utf-8

HI All!

I use:
System: RedHat 9.0
MySQL: 3.23.54a-11
Apache: 2.0.40-21
OTRS: 1.2.1-01


When I set $Self->{DefaultCharset} = 'utf-8';
and go to URL
http://my_web)host/otrs/index.pl
I receive a mistake

Server error!

    The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request. 

    Error message:
    Usage: Apache::RequestRec::BINMODE(r) at /opt/otrs//Kernel/System/Encode.pm line 
224. 

    If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster 

Error 500

    10.11.12.2

What can it be?
