The "IRM" system is pretty good, and easy to extend. The official site seems to be having some trouble, but here's a site which has mirrors and references:

OTRS is working great, but I was wondering of anyone can recommend an
open source asset tracking system. Ideally it would be great to have
this as a module available under OTRS, but it looks as if that's not
one of the available options just yet.

IRM 1.5.5 ? ( http://www.stackworks.net/view.php/irm/ ) 2.0 requires
PostgreSQL .
A little surgery to carve out it's trouble ticket system would be in
order. I think an asset management tool would make a good module for
OTRS.
