Hi,
I just upgraded from 2.0.4 to 2.2.3 the other day.
Most of the instructions are in the package file for
the upgrade. There is a file called INSTALL and
UPGRADE , whether you use the tar.gz or rpm. I would
suspect that also debian would have same if using
different from above.
Piece of information i did not find in that file, but
useful:

For the database, make sure you run the database
conversion script from release-to-release. You should
not jump them, i.e. 2.0-->2.1-->2.2

And, for your personal configuration, using otrs
itself, save your config from inside otrs->sysconfig
into a text file, and (up)load these configurations
into the latest otrs you install via sysconfig as
well.

Very minimal file editting needed, if at all.
