Yes I did and yes it is, the missing piece was -Indexes which I thought was the default when DirectoryIndex is set but apparently it was not, it had to be set explicitly. I cannot tell (yes) why this is the case here, according to the Apache docs a DirectoryIndex should do the job and this is my own experience. This is also the reason I choose to post @otrs instaed of the Apache list.
