I've contemplated that, but neither Debian nor Ubuntu upgrade ever upgrade version numbers in a stable release, so it could only happen if we released before the distro did, and they ended up shipping a newer version.

It would be better to use a name like mysql-server-ourdelta-5.0 and similar names for all the other packages to avoid any issues.
