Our dev and qa teams run db instances with more than one version of mysql on one machine.
When upgrading production, it's much easier to fall back to an earlier version when all you have to do is change a symlink, as opposed to removing and installing several rpm or deb packages. We also run a slave on new releases for awhile to build confidence. As you might imagine, this slave doesn't have a machine all to itself. For further justification, though this doesn't apply to me, what about slackware and gentoo? Tarballz would serve those constituencies nicely. Don't get me wrong, I use rpm and deb packages in most situations. It's just these outliers at the high end that aren't well served by rpm and deb. And if I may anticipate, a virtualized environment isn't for us just yet. -- provide tarballs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/314116 You received this bug notification because you are a member of OurDelta- developers, which is the registrant for OurDelta. Status in OurDelta - Builds for MySQL: In Progress Bug description: Please provide tarballs in addition to the rpm and deb formats. We currently use mysql's tarballs, and the lack thereof has made our transition to ourdelta more difficult than necessary. We made a script to extract from rpm via rpm2cpio, but that's a hack -- the defaults are all off. The rpm2cpio-based script is attached in case anybody else runs into this issues before official ourdelta tarballs become available. _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ourdelta-developers Post to : [email protected] Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ourdelta-developers More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
