Hi Allan,

The Hard Drive might have died, but that isn't the
only possibility.

A system file could be corrupted or could have been
accidentally deleted.

If you have the Duo Dock or MiniDock try to boot the
computer from it with an emergency floppy or even
better an external CD-ROM or Hard Drive.

If you can access the internal HDD, then the problem
is trivial and fixable by a system reinstall. If you
can't access it or even see it on the desktop, then
the problem might be worse.

Still there is the possibility that just the HDD
driver is corrupted and a SCSI utility like Hard Disk
Toolkit, Silverlining, or even Apple's Disk First Aid
and/or HDD Setup could (and should) fix it.

If even this won't work it is time to use either
DiskWarrior (never used it, but I hear it is the
best), Techtool Pro or Norton utilities (If you use NU
and you have MacOS 8.1 or higher you should use NU 5).

If even that won't give you any result, then your Duo
HDD is dead.

I am sure that my list is not exhaustive, but I am
sure the gaps will be filled by other listmembers.

Keep us posted.
Good luck
Cheers
Andrea
