You should be able to find the Apple Service Manual online at

it contains complete, illustrated instructions on how to disassemble a 3400.

There should be a plastic sheet in the 3400, but it doesn't come with any
metal foil. If you don't have the plastic sheet you could just slip in a
realatively thick peice of paper.
