A new thought... I see that the browser Opera 6.03 is suitable for OS 8.6 to 10.3
which might even mean that the others I asked about will work with 9.1.
I will download Opera and give it a try.
Opera's not bad - I like its bookmark organisation. But I found v.6 unbearably slow after using v.5 for a while under OS9. And even 5 slows up a lot after it has been running for an hour or so, or when it has lots of windows open.
There are two different environments for writing OS X software - Carbon, which will also run in OS 9, and Cocoa, which will not. The fact that Opera runs in OS 9 says nothing about whether other software will too. In fact ISTR that there are actually different downloads of Opera for 9 and X.
My guess is that as we move further and further away from the "official" death of OS 9, fewer and fewer companies will be willing to devote resources to Carbon.
