IMHO the HP consumer range is not all that good - I am having good success with the Brother HL range of mono laser printers.Gentlefolk,
So, I have two related questions:
1. Does anyone know if the LaserJet 1015 does or does not work as a cross-platform printer when plugged into an AX's USB port?
(BTW, I have first-hand reports of the 1012 working on both OS X and XP via Rendezvous/zero.conf. This entails installing the Rendezvous for Windows beta from Apple. I don't mind doing this or something similar on the Windows side. Unfortunately, the 1012 isn't available in Australia.)
2. Does anyone know of any other laser printers (Brother, Lexmark et al) that have similar duty cycles, similar price tags and will work in the same situation?
NB, I've checked iFelix's unofficial Airport Extreme and Airport Express Printer Compatibility List -- <http://efelix.co.uk/tech/1013.html> -- and it's helpful, but is a little light on info regarding whether or not particular printers work across platforms when plugged into an AirPort Extreme or Express.
TIA.

Given my own mixed network I bought a cheap print server (Hardly Normal bargain basement shop) to service my HL-1430 and connected using the (gulp) parallel port.
It is dead easy to set up lpr printing on the OSX machines and not much harder on the Wintel boxen.
The brother web site has all the drivers you need.
I know rendezvous is 'a good idea' but for simplicity and across platform connectivity then an lpr type connection will give less grief. Both the Mac and XP boxes are quite happy to talk to an IP addressed print server with standard software. will the Ax only do rendezvous print serving or will it support lpr?
My 2 cents worth
Doug
