Hi again, I have been a bit slow in responding due to my wallowing in the glory of ADSL after 15 years of a 28.8k dial-up connection.
But back to the point. What Bigpond should have done was to have a FAQ for Mac that says something like:- 1. The Siemens 4200 ADSL Modem is configured (out of the box) as a router. 2. It has a LAN address of 10.0.0.138. 3. The router administrative signon and password is admin/admin 4. Signon as admin and enter the setup function to enter your bigpond account ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) and password. 5. Logout of admin and use the newly entered account and password to connect. (The router does the connection, so no LAN computers need PPOE to be configured in any way nor do they need any client PPP software) 6. The router has DHCP switched on by default and allocates addresses in the range 10.0.0.1 to 10.0.0.137 7. Each computer on the LAN can use either the DHCP-server supplied address and subnet mask, or, if you prefer a manual TCP/IP setup, then choose an address of 10.0.0.139 or more with a mask of 255.255.255.0 and Gateway of 10.0.0.138 8. At the moment the Bigpond DNS servers are 144.140.70.30 and 144.140.71.16 but this can change (maybe 10.0.0.138 will also work but I havent tried this) 9. The POP and SMTP mail servers are both mail.bigpond.com 10. News server is news-server.bigpond.net.au You dont need OSX at all! Just any OS that has a sound implementation of TCP/IP and ethernet, and a computer with an ethernet port. My SE/30 with 7.5.5 and a PDS ethernet card works just fine. :-) but is, of course, a less that modern experience with its tiny black and white screen. So an 10 item list would have solved all problems and would have been much more useful than a windows .exe (even maybe for PC users!) ____________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
