I have a pair of speakers plugged into the socket above the
special Mac socket.

If you look on the back of the box, there are 2, 3 mmm
sockets in the top left corner
of the back of back, it is the top one. At least on my
Quicksilve it is.

If you like I could forward a picture of it. I originally
thought that you couldn't add
3rd party speakers myself, until I tried it........that was
in 1992! Works for me.
