Position: System Engineer
Location: Salem, MA
Duration: 3+ Months


Required Skills: VMWare, Citrix, SANs, and Altiris or SCCM experience
are all necessary.

For automation and mid-tier applications owned by Technology Services
and Operations:
• Requirements Gathering:
o Gather and document functional and new technology needs/requirements
from all departments
o Clearly define functional use and configuration.
• Documentation:
o Document stages of project lifecycle using established templates,
test results to show requirements were met, document implementation
and support procedures, technical configurations, and other systems
settings.
o Document topologies, flow charts, and diagrams of systems
interactions and dependencies.
o Document presentations, technical papers, and updates to promote new
technology.
• Cohabitation/SW Interrelations: (middleware and in-house PARTNERS
applications)
o Provide engineering, testing, and training to make sure all
solutions interacts optimally
o Build and maintain a lab environment providing all necessary
infrastructure components to fulfill engineering requirements.
• Project Management:
o Develop project plans to list requirements and project status.
o Work with other teams to ensure tasks are done on time or escalated,
reporting on a weekly basis
o Schedule meetings with customers, provide updates, and address/
escalate issues as needed.
o Complete project life-cycle work up front of migrations, to avoid
last minute rushes and issues.
• Innovation
o Constantly look forward to identify, assess & implement applicable
new solutions (i.e. new technologies, enhancements and procedures) for
the environment

For all software and hardware engineers:
• Engineer solutions and integrated solutions based on requirements.
• Create manual and automated install, support, and migration
procedures and tools.
• Create and enhance automation infrastructure providing logging,
conflict management, and ease of use for support teams and developers.
• Ensure that appropriate source control standards are leveraged for
all hardware and software solutions.

Support:
• Provide third level consultation for: installs, mid-tier software
troubleshooting, OS, and infrastructure related engineering.
• Provide timely response to issues presented to the group
• Weekly status reports (if applicable)
• Participate in on-call rotation
• All other related duties as assigned

Certifications/Validations:
• Facilitate creation of mid-tier software, automation, and
infrastructure standards.
• Develop procedures for implementation and support teams to validate
standards are met during installation and for troubleshooting.
• Validate new software installs are complete and have release notes
and specific information to install the application consistently at
all times (permissions, id's, label, updates, etc.)

Qualifications     (MUST be realistic, neither overstated nor
understated, and related to the essential function of the job).

• Associates or Bachelors degree in Computer Science or some related
field preferred
• Microsoft Certification and/or training preferred

If candidate has not obtained the above education requirements as yet
but has much of the above, related experience, he/she is encouraged to
pursue a Degree and/or MS Certification while employed under the
tuition reimbursement plan.

Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required     (MUST be realistic, neither
overstated nor understated, and related to the essential function of
the job).

• 3+ years experience with computer systems preferred
• Experience in healthcare environment is preferred
• In-depth knowledge/experience with server/desktop/laptop/PDA
hardware
• In-depth knowledge of Windows Operating Systems, mid-tier software,
directory services and infrastructure.
o Windows (NT/W2K/XP/W2K3) and Active Directory
o Unix (Solaris, HP-UX, AIX)
o Linux (RedHat)
• Training or assisting other technical staff with new technologies.
• Analytical, problem-solving, written and verbal skills is preferred
• Ability to solve problems quickly and thoroughly, analyze system
dumps, decipher error logs, and troubleshoot all layers of software.
• Develop solutions that increase developer and support group's
efficiency.
• Scripting skills. Languages:
o Perl
o SQL
o Batch jobs
o Java
o Unix Shell Scripting (ksh, tcsh, bash)
o VBScript
o HTML
• Knowledge of applicable technologies desired
o IIS/COM+
o Wise Packaging/Scripting
o Task Scheduling
• Network Skills and Protocols
• Database administration
• Ability to interact with people at all organizational levels.
• Proven ability to work well within a team and communicate
professionally and accurately.
• Ability to ask for help and escalate issues as appropriate.
• Open minded self-starter with proven record for suggesting
improvements in a professional manner.
• Attentive to details, with excellent documentation skills.
• Thorough understanding of solution and product lifecycles.
• Adhere to all defined best-practices, standards and procedures.
• Commitment to realizing organization's near and long term goals and
objectives.
• Understand the difference in complexity and implementation of third
party vs. internally developed solutions
• Ability to be flexible, versatile and adaptable in day-to-day
activities conducted in a multi-site environment
• Ability to prioritize and manage individual work queue to deliver
according to agreed upon schedules

Working Conditions                        Describe the conditions in
which the work is performed

• Shared office environment with other Technology Support and
Operations members.
• On-call rotation 24x7 (~1 week per month) as 3rd tier support with
Platform Engineering.
• Remote access to support off-hours required.
• Lifting up to 30lbs or more may be required.
