San Diego- CA*

*10+ year of designing and building a variety of commercial, complex,
enterprise systems with substantial client facing and team management
experience. *

*3-5 years of  IBM Web sphere Commerce Server (WCS) *

*At least 1 o 2 end-end commerce solutions implementation using WCS*

*Worked on range of platforms i.e. not just web, but including
client-server, o/s *

*Deep technical skills across several enterprise technologies * both Java
and .NET - and a good breadth across many technologies * no area of
technology is a complete mystery. Knowledge spanning multiple platforms and
architectures *

*Have worked closely with senior business people on requirements analysis
and solution proposition *

*Have large project architecture experience * i.e. able to think about
multiple streams of design and how they tie together*

*Accountable for: *

*Architects have 2 broad accountabilities * Delivering Projects and Company
Development Delivering Projects*

*Creating the architecture and design of the systems and justification of
the solution to clients and/or 3rd parties*

*Communication of architecture and design to the team and supporting them in
implementing it*

*Leading, mentoring and encouraging (and where necessary, enforcing)
awareness and respect for software design and software engineering
disciplines*

*Troubleshooting - fixing really difficult problems when they crop up in a
client*s environment or system, coordinating rapid, expert on-the-ground
technical response*

*Taking a senior client management approach, possibly solo though more
likely in conjunction with others e.g. project manager, client director*

*Diagnosing complex technical environments by exuding technical credibility
and quickly diagnosing problems and identifying solutions*

*Able to pull new technical skills out the hat (i.e. 2 weeks to learn
everything about New Thing X to such a degree that a client will pay for
their skills on New Thing X) *

*Working with senior client business people to identify functional
requirements*

*Heavily supporting the Technical Project Manager by leading the upfront
phases of a project * requirements analysis, translating clients business
requirements into system, application and process designs, getting to the
heart of not only the stated requirements for the system but also the
customers strategic rationale for the system and their Critical Success
Factors*

*Able to hold own with biggest and best the client and their partners can
throw at us * can look "eye to eye" across the table and everyone knows
their project and technical experience is in fact far superior. Instantly
credible. *

*Calming nervous customers, making them think everything is under control *
helping them define a way forward * proactive sensible ideas and solutions
(evidenced by key client personnel always wanting to talk to YOU) *

*Being extremely confident and credible * okay with doing presentations and
other external new business activities which would usually around their
fields of technical expertise but may also include technology management,
strategy or business application of technology *

*Go into new clients or other opportunistic situations and by own efforts
gain confidence of the decision makers such that our client gets the outcome
it needs (e.g. establish our credibility and win work, influence a partner
to preferentially pass leads our way etc) *

*Having a deep technical knowledge of the whole technology stack * database,
firewall, applications, network, o/s, application server, middleware etc *

*Really supporting Project Managers by thinking about what info/knowledge
they have and how it could be taken out of their heads and used by others -
act as company lifesaver * in there on ground when things get tough and big
*

*Performance of final system *

*Maintainability of solutions (i.e. ability to efficiently enhance a
system/application over years without need to throw away and start again) *

*Able to work self and tech team productively under a variety of development
method regimes from waterfall to agile *

*Company Development *

*Making substantial inputs into proposals and technical solutions * their
inputs are always sought out as people know good points will be made * will
often take lead role on pulling together technical elements of proposals and
new business activities *

*Identifying and leading initiatives aimed at improving our overall software
development capabilities e.g. processed, tools etc, mentoring and
demonstration best practice on own projects, creating useful re-usable
deliverables for others to exploit, capturing effort and schedule metrics to
help with estimating. *

*Demonstrating "Thought Leadership in this clients * i.e. method, market,
technology, projects *

*Taking at least one more junior member of staff under their personal wing
and helping them development their competence and career in the company *

*Tasks:*

*Still coding 30% of the time [Mainly for POC and critical issue resolution]
*

*Frequently be able to stand back from the project and see the bigger
picture *

*Recommending tools and ensuring most appropriate is selected *

*Troubleshoot a clients issues, locating and fixing problems wherever they
are, if necessary calling in other technical experts with specific
specialties to help*
