*JobTitle*: Network Engineer *Duration*: 6+months *Location*: West Des Moines, IA *Rate*: Market ** *JOB DESCRIPTION:* *This is primarily a Telecommunications role. Specific skills are Siemens Telephony, VOIP, and excellent desktop/customer service skills. Contractor will be responding to tickets and supporting users daily. PURPOSE:* * Assists with the installation and support of one or more of these IT platforms (hardware and operating software); 1) network data and voice communications, 2) LAN/WAN, 3) client/server or 4) telecommunications. * Assists in the planning of large scale systems projects through vendor comparison and cost studies. *ACCOUNTABILITIES:* * Completes routine maintenance (i.e., patches and upgrades) and troubleshoots hardware and software problems within the voice/ data network, and personal computer infrastructure. * Installs and maintains hardware and software components related to the operation of the companys computer server, voice/data network; makes recommendations on system configurations. * Installs and maintains customer requested software applications on the network. * Reviews company hardware and software standards and makes recommendations for enhancements or modifications to corporate standards if needed. * Resolves minor technical, operational, and equipment problems. * Requests assistance from higher level Network Engineers when working on more complex problems. * Administers one or more of the following functions: Implements and maintains our LAN and WAN segments. Integrates new application bandwidth requirements within the existing network infrastructure. Implements and maintains network equipment including, but not limited to, hubs, routers, bridges, gateways, and communication links.o Implements and maintains our network server/workstation environment. Provides configuration support, and conducts user training on network hardware and software. Administers peripheral equipment (printers, CD-ROMs, etc.). Responds promptly to requests from user departments to review or change user profile configurations. * Serves as third level support for solving personal computing or application problems. Provides configuration support, and conducts user training on data or voice network, personal computer hardware and software. * Administers peripheral equipment (printers, phones, backup units, power protection, etc.). * Responds promptly to requests from user departments to review or change network related configurations. *KEY OUTPUTS: * * Software (operating system) updates * Hardware maintenance * Hardware and software installation * Recommendations on hardware and software options. *KEY RELATIONSHIPS:* * IT support staff * End-Users * Project Management * Network Engineers/Architects *KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS: * * Timely correction of hardware and software issues * User systems uptime *QUALIFICATIONS:* * Associates degree in a computer related field or equivalent work experience *EXPERIENCE:* * One (1) to three (3) years experience with personal computer systems and operating systems, voice or data systems is required. * Must continue to seek platform certification, such as A+ hardware and software certification and/or hardware warranty certification, based on training curriculum identified by manager. * Must have a working knowledge of telecommunications systems, network cabling, network protocols, transmission media types, and network routers. * Must have a comprehensive understanding personal computer systems this include: workstations and peripherals, modems, printers, network interface cards, networks and related infrastructure, Windows operating systems, Windows-based software applications, utility programs, and security related desktop operating system topics. * Must have experience installing and integrating PC software packages in a LAN environment. * Must have experience in troubleshooting platform related problems including an understanding of administrative tools used on the platform. * Must have strong customer service skills and be committed to providing quality service in support of service delivery goals.
