Position: Java architect

Location: Jersey City, NJ

Duration: 6+ months





Job Description:

Education:
A related Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience

Knowledge, skills, abilities, experience required:
Experience in insurance or financial services systems development including
in the design of component- and/or service-based systems/applications.
Experience in designing, developing, and testing systems/services using
J2EE/JEE architecture WebSphere Application Server or similar application
server technology, including servlets, JSP, EJB, JMS.
Experience in designing, developing, and testing systems/applications using
service-oriented architectures WebSphere Process Server, WebSphere
Enterprise Service Bus, Mediation Modules, BPEL.
Development Tools IBM Rational Application Developer (RAD), Rational
Software Architect (RSA), WebSphere Integration Developer (WID).
Ability to interact with multiple projects concurrently.
Ability to lead technology evaluation efforts, including the definition of
the evaluation criteria, identification of technologies to be evaluated, and
the actual evaluation.
Ability to create and deliver technical presentations to technical and
non-technical staff, as appropriate to the target audience.
Ability to engage with project teams in a leadership role, advocating on
behalf of architectural principles and standards, and making compromises
where appropriate.


Knowledge, skills, abilities, experience desired:
User interface Rich Internet Application technologies such as AJAX, Dojo /
jQuery / ExtJS / YUI, etc., a plus.
Knowledge of Pegasystem Pega Rules Process Commander (PRPC) a plus.
Java Development frameworks - Spring, Hibernate a plus.
Security - Siteminder, LDAP, Single Sign-On (SSO), WS-Security, SAML a plus.

Portal technologies - Portlets, JSR168, JSR286, WSRP, IBM Portal Server,
Portlet Factory a plus.
Performance testing, troubleshooting, and tuning a plus.
Document / content management - IBM Content Manager, FileNet, Adobe
LiveCycle Services a plus.
Rule engines - IBM ILOG or Blaze Advisor a plus.
Ability to manage team meetings and presentations and coordinate with
off-site teams.




Job Description

Employees primary responsibility will be to design component/service-based
systems architectures to meet objectives for business processing needs.
Position will report to the Director, Architecture Services.

Related responsibilities include the following:
Review existing materials to understand project scope, and, if necessary,
prepare a project scope statement or context diagram.
Meet with project stakeholders to understand and document their specific
requirements, issues, and concerns related to the system/application
architecture.
Develop resource and time estimates for system/application architecture
definition and documentation tasks.
Understand functional and nonfunctional requirements for complex
systems/applications, and help develop nonfunctional requirements if
necessary.
Understand the various types of tools and technologies in the market and
their appropriate usage.
Understand corporate technology standards and policies, and be able to
communicate their implications to project teams as they relate to specific
development efforts.
Understand the overall enterprise architecture, and help project teams
rationalize their system/application architectures to the enterprise
architecture where appropriate.
Review and/or develop the architectural description documentation for
projects.
Review and/or develop architectural models, utilizing multiple views or
viewpoints (e.g., functional, deployment, development) as necessary.
Review and/or develop interface specifications, such as web service SOAP
methods.
Evaluate design alternatives based on quality properties (e.g., performance,
scalability, usability, ease of maintenance, security) and from a total cost
of ownership standpoint.
Make architectural design decisions and document them as part of the
architectural description.
Select or develop architecturally significant scenarios for development in
prototypes, proofs of concept, or early development iterations.
Provide technical direction to personnel performing systems analysis and
system/application development tasks.
Perform related duties as assigned or requested.
