*Qualifications:*

1 Senior level Java consultant for web UI and web service development

The current need is for a Java consultant to enhance a web application
(Pheonix) and its underlying web service architecture (Imperio) in a 14 week
engagement. There is a possibility for extension, depending on funding and
candidate performance.

Java Consultant-Specifics

The Java person needs to be very proficient in modifying existing code.
There will be very little new development here.

The project will involve modifying and writing JSP’s and Servlets
*without*using an underlying framework such as Struts, Spring, GWT,
JSF or Seam.
*Candidate whose only experience with web development is with such a
framework are not acceptable.* Having said that, the application itself
consists of about six servlets, about a dozen JSP’s and about a dozen
database tables, so the scope is manageable with such a framework.

The project will be done in two phases, the first in about 6 weeks and the
other in about 8. Between the phases we will evaluate the consultants
performance to determine whether to continue the engagement for the second
phase.

Required expert level skills: Java 5 (including generics and annotations),
JSP and Servlets, HTML and CSS, Eclipse, SVN, SOAP-based web services and
related technologies (JAX*, WS-*), JDBC (hand written), JUnit, ANT, JBoss or
Tomcat, SQL (MSSQL and Oracle), ability to work with pre-existing code.

Nice-to-have skills: Apache CXF or Axis 2, Continuous Integration (e.g.,
Hudson), Design Patterns (DAO, DTO, Façade, Bridge, Singleton), Application
Servers other than JBoss/Tomcat, SOAP UI

Things that might seem helpful but really aren’t: ORM tools (hibernate, JDO,
JPA, Entity Beans), desktop development, EJB( any kind), REST, Sockets,
Applets, JMS.
