Port protected mode is available in some switching ASICs (b53 etc) and
Cisco also implements this feature.
(http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3850/software/release/3.2_0_se/multibook/configuration_guide/b_consolidated_config_guide_3850_chapter_011101.html)

Protected ports will not forward traffic to other protected ports.
Protected ports will forward traffic to unprotected ports, and
unprotected ports can forward traffic to any port.

This feature can be useful for:
 * Implementing basic flood protection when STP is not available or
   desired.
 * Aggregator port. All ports except one port are set as protected
ports. Traffic arriving on the protected ports will only be
   forwarded to the aggregator port.
