Hi everyone,

I realized that I completely let August slip away, and so we're overdue to start the release process for the 20.09.0 release of OVN.

I propose that soft freeze for 20.09 will be on Friday 11 September, 2020. Any feature patches that you wish to have included in 20.09.0 must be published to the dev list by that date.

For 20.06, we had a long turnaround between soft freeze and actual release due to some last second submissions and long review processes. To help that not happen this time, please respond to this email as soon as possible to let us know which outstanding patches should be reviewed for 20.09 inclusion, and please try to get your patches posted as soon as possible.

Once soft freeze hits, we will create the 20.09 branch, and we will review and test patches to get them included in the branch. Friday 18 September will be hard freeze. This is when we stop placing any new feature patches in the branch. From there, we will have a week to perform any testing before releasing on Friday 25 September.

To prevent this sort of situation in the future where time slips away, I'm going to make an update to the release process document in OVN that clarifies the timeline some more and uses actual calendar dates.

Thanks,
Mark Michelson
