I've applied this series and backported back to branch-2.16.
I also prepared backports for branch-2.14 and branch-2.15,
However, I have not pushed them as I see CI failures
with those branches without any new patches applied [2.14, 2.15].

Thanks Simon, just docs and those branches are older than the LTS so I
think we can just drop them for those branches.
