Hi, I switched from OVS to OVS-DPDK and changed the VNFs to use vhost-user backend. I used iperf to compare the performance of vhost-net and vhost-user backend performance. Despite tuning on all fronts [more queues, more pmd threads chaining affinities, socket memory, increase cpus] get the below results,
1) VM-VM: lower through put than vhost-net, lot less (1/4 of vhost-net) After googling found few links which pointed to TSO offload needed in OVS-DPDK, couldn't get option in OVS-DPDK to change that. 2) VM->PNIC->VM: Slightly better performance, not much. I can look further on tuning, Anyone faced the same issue and any pointers would be helpful. -- Thanks and Regards, Pradeep.K.S.
