Subject: [SysSec-Dissemination] Android Lockscreen Survey
To: [email protected]

Dear All,

If you are an android smartphone user, please consider sparing five
minutes to help us with some security research run by one of my
students by completing the anonymous survey for mobile phone lock
screen patterns usage below. The survey is completed through a
downloadable app from Google Play Store.

Android Lockscreen Survey

With the emergence of mobile devices into mainstream usage, the
importance of the security of data and applications stored on the
device has become increasingly important, the first and often last
line of defence against attacks on the device data is a user
authentication lock screen.

This survey is created as part of research into user lockscreen
security habits in the Computer Science department at the University
of Bristol. The questions are non-personal general demographical
queries and user preferences on mobile device lockscreen security; the
user is not required to input any sensitive data or actual password
information. The survey takes less than five minutes to complete and
all data is sent securely and anonymously to the server with no
ability to trace data back to you or your device.

The collected data will be held for a maximum of six months and will
only be used by Gareth Knowles and fellow researchers at the Computer
Science department of the University of Bristol. We have followed all
University guidelines and policies for the research ethics and data
collection. The final research report will be published on the web and
freely available on request.

The Survey App can be downloaded from the Google Play Store:

For more information, to discuss any concerns or to find out more
about the research, feel free to contact Gareth or me.

Kind Regards
Theo
