OWASP has been accepted as a participating organization in the Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2013 program - https://www.owasp.org/index.php/GSoC. The OWASP ModSecurity Core Rule Set (CRS) is participating and we have listed many different development task ideas here - https://www.owasp.org/index.php/GSoC2013_Ideas. These new features can then be used by the CRS to help with protections.
