I think that would be pretty hard in 1-Wire. I'm not sure the 1-Wire data stream would be consistent enough for IR communications. I think using something like a PIC would be a better route, plus you can get some PICs for a good bit cheaper than the DS2406.

It would be great if it was possible to echo a word to a ds2406 like: #echo "0101010100010101" > /dev/1wire/*ds2406 device IO A* and *somehow* have it output at a set data rate (1200, 1600, 2400, 3800, etc) ...any chance a ds2406 could do that?
