I just followed the instructions for Gentoo from the OWFS FAQ and that worked fine for me. The version of fuse that I'm using is the latest stable version available in portage (Gentoo's equivalent to apt or rpm): sys-fs/fuse- 2.6.0_rc1.

I symlinked it to /usr/local/lib/site-perl on my Gentoo system. The install puts it in /opt/owfs/bin.
