You could connect another 1-wire device to your network to monitor a
push-button, and toggle the lamp state based on that. A DS2406 would be a
good fit because it has a latch on the PIO, so you wouldn't have to catch
the exact moment that the button is pressed. If you can work with tiny TSOC
devices you could even use just one to monitor buttons for both lamps,
otherwise, if you use the TO-92 format (looks like a transistor), you'll
need one for each.
Oh, you said you didn't want to have to constantly poll, so I guess that
won't help.
I've heard of using X10 as a remote for controlling non-X10 things. There
is an X10 device which allows your computer to listen for X10 commands. So
instead of the "normal" way of using X10 to directly control a lamp, in your
case you'd be using X10 to tell the computer to change the state of the
DS2413.

It can do music, but there are several other externals, so you can also

be really cool (and easy and cheap) to use 1wire-sensors with it. I'll
try it with owserver/ownet.
The DS2413... This question hasn't much to do with OWFS.
I'm using a DS2413 to switch two lamps on and off, currently with a
telephone using asterisk, but sometimes it would be more convenient to
have a on/off-switch near the lamps.
But how can I accomplish this?
