Looking back at 2.5p10 (The version you said worked), there was no test for
zeros in the non-counter bytes, so it worked. Looking at the public domain
code (cnt1d.c) there is no check for zero bytes. I guess this is a real fix
and the datasheet is wrong.
I'm releasing 2.6p8 today, with fixes for the DS2423 and Swart's LCD.
Fixing the DS2438 vis values is next.
