I've actually tried to isolate the DS2409/DS1820 on a short, single
network branch, so it does not appear to be a network or hardware
problem. Additionally, I have tried other 1-wire adapters and different
DS1820s to make sure the error is repeatable.

Can anyone explain what "passive mode" is? I've found some references
to the fact that 1-wire devices cannot be parasitically powered, while
in passive mode. Is this relevant to the 1-wire bus master, or
something in owfs?

  Thanks
  Mike
