That's a problem. The change was to add a 1-wire reset after reading or
writing to that device.

Looking at the control instructions on pg 24 of the datasheet:

Can you confirm that your control of the RST is working? Perhaps look at the
lines with an oscilloscope.

Right. The change is only a test to see if ensuring a reset solves the
problem. By the way, there are other scripts like DS2406, DS2413, DS28EA00,
etc.
