In general OWFS doesn't support an unmatched library. So your in example
libow 2.7p17 would be called by owfs-2.7p14, owserver-2.7p14,
owhttpd-2.7p17, ... Mixing versions might work (there are rarely big changes
in the non-library programs), but it isn't intended or tested.
All the programs are rather thin wrappers of libow anyways.
The other libraries that are linked: libusb, libfuse, are much less tightly
bound and are, in general, backwards compatible to everything from the last
few years.
Note that the owserver protocol is versioned, but is wtill on version 0 --
completely intraoperable. So even with different program versions, the owfs
programs can talk to each other on separate machines.
