Hi everyone,

I've been concerned about my 1-wire network getting toasted also.

I emailed Maxim, and here's was the engineer's response BELOW. This should
protect your network from anything, except a direct lightning strike, which the
engineer stated would be difficult to prevent.

I hope this helps.

| Hi XXXXXXXX,
|
| I will be the application engineer assisting you.  There are a
| few things you can do to protect your 1-Wire devices from a
| surge, indirect lightning or ESD event.  I recommend using a
| DS9503 part and a PTC resettable fuse.  Here is the data sheet
| for the DS9503:
|
| http://datasheets.maxim-ic.com/en/ds/DS9503.pdf
|
| The PTC I most recommend is from Little Fuse part # 0603L010YR
| found here:
|
| http://www.littelfuse.com/part/0603L010.html
|
| You would place the DS9503 first, followed by the PTC, and then
| the 1-Wire Device.  This will protect you against most surges,
| ESD events, and indirect lightning strikes.  Protecting against
| direct lightning events would be much more difficult.
|
| Best Regards,
|

| How do you protect a 1-wire network from a lightning strike.
|
| I don't want my temperature devices toasted, my hub, or anything
| else on the network.
|
| Thanks.
