Something you could do to further troubleshoot is to capture traffic between owserver and your program using tcpdump -- if you see connections being reset (TCP RSTs) or being terminated normally TCP FINs) then that may give you something to further investigate. If your program and owserver run on the same machine then remember that you need to use the loopback interface when capturing...
