I may even add a cron job to do the above once a day or so as then I won't need the ssh access.
The system is an old Asus eeePc on a boat, it's for monitoring the temperature (and a couple of other things) on the boat so that I know all is OK there. The connection to the internet at the boat is a decidedly flakey 3G connection so isn't always 100% reliable and as the telephone company have their own NAT in the way (as well as that of the 3G router) I have to initiate the ssh connection from the boat end and then reverse tunnel through that to get a connection from here (home) to the boat. Hence even getting an ssh connection to the boat is sometimes trick and the more I can make the system on the boat resilient and self correction the better.
