Hi Pascal! I'm using another USB port of my monitoring PC [1] to power the 1wire devices (currently 2x 2408 and 6x ds18s20, some ds2406).
The advantage is that you don't have to put in an extra fuse (it's current limited) and you can be sure that there is some common ground between the two USB ports (to be on the safe side: Put those grounds together, if you have any doubt). Of course, any over-voltage might fry your USB port, but the bus adaptor is on USB anyways, so you might want to add additional protection like on [2]. br, Markus [1] An old HP/Neoware Terminal Client equipped with 1GB RAM/250GB 2,5" disk :) Pics (from someone else): http://www.parkytowers.me.uk/thin/NeoCA21/index.shtml [2]: http://gladstonefamily.net/surge-protection.html On Oct 7, Pascal Brugier <pbrug...@aeon-hq.net> wrote: > Hello, > > It's me again ;). > > I'use a star topology 1wire connected to my server with an USB master > "Dallas Semiconductor DS1490F 2-in-1 Fob, 1-Wire adapter". > There is only 8 DS18B20 on the bus for the moment but i'll had DS2406 > for managing the warmth and more for door open/close and power > monitoring... > > I want to add an external power supply for the bus using an ATX power. > I read that there would be some troubles, data lost on sensor, with the > ground of the ATX power supply when connected or not connected with the > groun of the bus comming thru the USB master. > > So, which solution is better ? > Is someone here using an external power supply for its 1wire bus ? > > Thank you, > Pascal. > > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > All of the data generated in your IT infrastructure is seriously valuable. > Why?
