Hi,

I'm fortunate to have my roof hanging over for about 1.20m, so my wall (usually) doesn't get wet where I've put my sensor. I used the existing pipe that already carries satellite dish cables. The DS18S20 was insulated using shrink-tube (although I'd probably use shrink-tube + silicone if I did it again, just to be on the safe side). Of course I did not cover the whole body of the sensor, only ~1-2mm.

This sensor is on the south side and hanging "in free air", with about 15cm of cables.

I've got another sensor on the north side of my house, inside the sensor case that's used for my heating outside temp sensor to protect it from rain. This one is usually a bit warmer (1-3 degrees C), probably because of the pipe for the cable.

To get the most accurate temperature, I collect both values and take the lower one. An additional benefit is some sort of "sunlight detection", because the sensor in the south will get much hotter if sun is shining :)
And of course: redundancy :)

greetings,
Markus

Hi All,

I've got my OpenWRT and owfs set up working, thanks for the advice.   What
are people doing for outside temp sensors?   I can't seem to figure out a
way to keep it out of the rain, but not trap heat  (using an upside down
plastic container right now, right up against the house).

Thanks!

Todd
