If it's of any help to you, I'm using the Hobby Boards DS2423 board to record
hot water use in my home:

("DHW Usage" graph) and from Perl it works absolutely perfectly. Again the
values are "counters.A" & "counters.B".
In another installation I'm using both counters (one for glycol in a solar
energy system) and it also works great.
