First note that it only works if the sensors are powered.

I use it in my system and it works well.  The sequence of operations is -

Read all sensors
Write '1' to simultaneous/temperature register
Perform the control logic
Write to the outputs
Repeat

Writing to simultaneous/temperature causes the sensors to perform the temperature calculations, so when I read again next cycle the values are ready.

My system has 8 channels and each one has a simultaneous/temperature register, I don't know if it is necessary but I write to all of them, it doesn't take much time for the write.
