to prevent updating temperatures while testing you can increase the 
timeout for volatile in the settings to something higher than the 
default of 15s
so there won't be any automatic updating of temperature sensors within 
the first time they have been read

why don't you try and run Stefanos timing program directly on your 
Beagle and see what timing you get there
