I'm working on a sharing api that apps will be able to use that can handle permissions such as these. I'm hoping to finalize a few things this next week before I push it to a branch on gitorious. I'd like to suggest to switch calendar sharing over to this api in the future to reduce your workload and provide a consistent sharing experience as Tom pointed out.
