I took your advice and changed my apache2 configuration so that every
connection attempt on
plain http will be redirected to https automatically.
Unfortunately the sync-client still reports: Connection timed out
I am grateful for any advice you are willing to share.

issues with the 1.0.4 client making an initial connection over HTTP
instead of HTTPS. This might explain why you're not seeing anything
in the server logs if you only have the server listening on 443.

This is on a Windows 7 client btw.
