Did you go under Settings...Admin inside Owncloud to set it there?
Also, if you are going to do 5GB, make sure you have enough memory in
the machine. You will also want to make sure you increase
max_execution_time and max_input_time so you will have time to upload
that much (although those won't affect the 512MB limit you are seeing).
