It looks like apache is set correctly. In fact, if I create a symbolic link in /var/www/owncloud/apps that points to an app in /var/www/apps, it works without issues.
I am not claiming that there is a better solution, I don't understand when, *at the moment*, we need the 'url' field. Maybe I am just being slow today (if that's the case, forgive me, I am on vacation :P).
