I'm sorry but I can't really help you with the built-in CalDAV sync adapter because I only used it shortly and not long enough to test properly. Since there was no CardDAV adapter I went to using syncevolution [1] instead. It works fine, but has no proper UI. There has been an attempt of making one [2] but I haven't tested it myself.
