Just checked and compared the browser features. Even 2.1 should be doable :)

I hope I can make it available for Android 2.3 Devices but currently
I'm using a lot of Android 4 stuff like the Master/Detail flow.
But I think the cross-platform App is going to be available for
Android 2.3 Devices.

Looks great ! But it's not available for my old Android 2.3.6. Is
there a plan to make it usable for old devices ?

@Bernhard: we decided for a cross-platform app written in
html/css/js and we should stick to that.
I will definitely help with testing David's app, but unfortunately I
can't promise that I will contribute to the code. Learning how to
code an android app is not in my near future plans.

I've published the apk file on GitHub because there are some
people without a credit card and I want to give them the
possibility to use the app too. I hope that there are some
people who buy the App in the Play Store to support my work.
When the App has reached a stable stage, I'm going remove the
apk file from the github repo.
I decided to use the agplv3 licence model.
@Frank: would be awesome to develop in the official ownCloud
github organization.
Best regards
David

Awesome project, will test it as soon as I can ;)
Contrary to Alessandros opinion i dont think this will be a big
problem. The people who install the app from github are either
developers or very advanced testers. You actually want to make
it easy for them to install the app to contribute to the
project. Also they can build the project by themselves, it will
be just another barrier for them to give you feedback or create
PRs ;)
Furthermore it would be cool if you could offer some kind of
license (proprietary, gplv3, whatever ;) ) so people dont think
youve forgot that
@Alessandro: maybe we should focus on testing and contributing
to that app during this month. We wont be able to finish our
mobile app soon enough and this gives people the opportunity to
switch to the news app after google reader closes ;)
PS: if youve got any whishes that'd make your life as an
owncloud news API user easier, feel free to create an issue on
github ;)

I just noticed that the packaged version is on github too.
I don't know if that's a good idea, since you want to sell it.
You could just release the source code on github and the
package on the google play store.
On a related note, this is a very good reading:

Hi David,
that's fantastic news!
Thanks for publishing the code open source, that's fantastic.
I will buy and test it as soon as I can.
Thanks!
